Hi everyone,
When I get all the computers back up on my network, I'm thinking of replacing the NT server with Linux. I cant put linux on the other machines because no one else wants to learn it. What software/configuration do I have to use to emulate some of the functions in NT or 2k?

Well, the main thing is that you will need to run a samba server for your
nt services. On top of that, however, I'm not too sure as I've never had
to do this, but the samba service should then mean that your clients will
be given all the info they need with regards to such things as dns
addresses, gateway etc.

Greetings. I replaced my nt server box with a pre-built llinux server which
performs far better than ms products ever did. it emulated all my file
shares, acted as mail web ftp server and a bunch more things like a group
calendar and such as add on packages.
the whole process took me less than half an hour to get running.
I got the server from
ftp.e-smith.org
it is a pretty cool system and has encouraged me to start learning more
about pearl so I can make changes to it that I want using their template
system for generating config files.
have been using this thing for more than a year now and am very happy with
it.
Brian.

Thanks!
What distro are you using? I'm probably going to use debian.
