I need a boot disk for redhat 6.0 for the litetalk synthesizer in order to install what I have from CD. Haven't been able to get slackware files off the net and unpack them without running into checkdir errors with unzip 5.40 current version I think. This holds true for zipspeak.zip and also the bigslack files for both versions 7.0 and 7.1. The only other slackware I have on CD is 4.0 and beyond that there's suse and caldera open linux neither of which boot disks with speakup exist for any version so far as I can tell. If redhat 6.0 will not make a workable boot disk with speakup I'd like to know that too since I may be able to borrow someone's redhat 7.x CD's for a few a little later this month.

I would urge you to read up on RedHat 7.0 before installing it. They have
included some code that the developers consider mid beta. Their reasoning
is that it will become mainstream, it is stable now, and getting it out
will find the rest of the problems.
Deciding that because my friends didn't have problems I won't either is
not a great idea. It is best to look into the problem as then you often
find not only a true rate of incidence, but what causes those
problems. One that my reading has noted is that bianaries compiled on/for
RedHat 7 will often not work on other machines because of the libraries
that were added which are considered beta code.
I wouldn't let the fact it is beta make me run though. Consider speakup
itself is still in bbeta stages. Some software is never released from
beta.

I would caution you on Red Hat 7. I have been hearing it has some problems. Although I haven't gotten it installed yet to confirm that story.
If you can get a copy of Red Hat 6.2 I think that may be your best choice from others I have spoken too.
