Hi, I've downloaded the discs from linux-speakup.org, and ftp.jamsite.us, and when running the test it fails.  any ideas guys?  thanks

Hi folks:

For what it's worth, I just came home, and have vaerified that disk one has 
been successfully downloaded such that it can be placed on my FTP site. The 
disks now have a date of 02/22/2005. Maybe the 02/19/2005 set had a 
defective or problematic disk one all along.

Let's hope I can get the whole 02/22/2005 set at this crawl speed without 
them changing the release during the pendancy of my retrieving them.

I wrote my immediate previous list message before reading all the email that 
had come in during the last sixteen hours.

Immediately upon reading your earlier entreaty respecting MD5sum, I did 
exactly that on the first 02/19/2005 iso file that's currently on my FTP 
site. Yep, its messed up! Don't quite understand all the gobbldy-goop which

md5sum -c /var/ftp/pub/linux/FC3-i386-disc1.iso

returned, but I understood enough to know that the disk is, as I said, 
messed up; hence, doubtless unusable.

At this point, I'm downloading the 02/22/2005 set, and will check each disk 
as the download completes.

Just say a prayer that, at the speed at which I'm acquiring these, they 
don't upgrade the disk images before I get a full set. That is, in fact, 
what happened last time. I was downloading the 02/15/2005 set; woke up 
saturday morning, february 19th, only to find that the download of disk two 
had frozen. After doing a little investigative work, I of course discovered 
that they had upgraded to the 02/19/2005 set, forcing me to redownload the 
whole set again.

Just curious,

What would be involved in starting a torrent of these, at least until a 
faster mirror is set up?  I have 768 up and an old 400 mhz machine that's 
always on as a music server.  I wouldn't mind being a seed for a few days if 
need be.

I haven't been ignoring you--I just don't know the answer to this
question.

I wonder how effective a torrent is with only a few sites participating?
I don't know how to set one up at this time, either.

It's certainly an idea worth looking into, but I think we need to press
forward on a mirror site or two as well.

Hi, John:

I've been away for almost a week, but need to respond with a quick
pointer ...

Don't download newer releases of the Speakup Modified iso files. That's
time consuming and wasteful.

Instead, use rsync. It's a very cool application that's smart enough to
download only what's different. Since only small portions of the images
change, you get updates much more efficiently. It's absolutely worth
learning. Here's a quick command to get you started. The dot at the end
of this command indicates the updated files will be placed in the
current directory, so cd to the directory which holds your Speakup
Modified iso images before issuing:

rsync -avtz --delete
bumpy.braille.uwo.ca::ftp/speakup/disks/fedora/current/* .
