One of the cool things about GRML is the 48 or so lines on the screen. Does anybody know what I'd do to get the same for Fedora 7? There seems to be a variable called LINES, but trying to change it does no good, as far as I can tell. I'll be grateful for info about either what to do or what to read about doing it. Thanks!

Hi. Try stty cols <columns> rows <rows>. If you want to increase another terminal's size without switching to it: stty -F /dev/<terminal> cols <columns> rows <rows>. Hth.

Thanks! I got my 48 lines. (Maybe I should try for Janina's 64! grin) Assuming I can do it, what file do you recommend saving the cammand in to make it the default for all terminals?

Hiya,
The contents of your yum.conf file didn't include the = sign which you
put into this message. I'm not sure if this is a typo or not, but it seems
that way to me.
Hope this helps,
Zack.

It goes in /boot/grub/grub.conf. Here's an excerpt from that
file on my .laptop. Notice the two lines that are commented. These allow
the Ctrl-G in the title line to beep the speaker, which lets me know I
have my 20 seconds to do something special. Pressing enter simply
executes the commands below the title line. Note also that the kernel
line is all on one line, though it's undoubtedly split in this email.
default=0
timeout=20
#splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
#hiddenmenu
title ^GFedora (2.6.21-1.3228.fc7spk)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7spk ro root=LABEL=/
#vga=0x318 speakup_synth=sftsyn
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7spk.img

You need to discover what modes your video card supports, then add the
appropriate designation to the arguments for your kernel in
/boot/grub/grub.conf, e.g. vga=0x31b
I don't know a reliable, accessible way to discover the available
designations, unfortunately. If you put in an unsupported mode, an
onscreen pop up will offer what the available modes are--but it doesn't
talk--not even with Speakup.
Only 48 rows? Sheesh! I've got 64 rows by 160 columns on one of my machines!

I explored using large screens for a while, but finally found the
standard 80X25 more satisfactory. I guess my ears have tunnel vision or
something.
