hello I was wondering if there is a speak up based distro. and also if this distro is easier for a new be?
my friend was telling me about gento and the fact that you can use a single command to compile source code and install software etc
emerge
eg
emerge yasr
for example
anyways this is a lot easier then having to do the /make
/make install
and also have it come up with errors like most compilations software does when I try to compile anyways is there such a beast, or a way to implimint the emerge feature in to debian if there isn't a easy distro gento speakup version out there?
thanks
hank

To: hank smith, Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
there are a number of distro's that have speakup in them.
Check out linux-speakup.org or go to
mirror.services.wisc.edu/mirrors/linux/distributions/speakup and have a look
around.

Yes, speakup is part of the official gentoo distro as far as I
remember, but I don't recall if it comes on the official gentoo iso,
or if you need to get a separate iso with speakup on it. My opinion
though is that gentoo is definitely not for the faint of heart, so no,
I don't think it is easy or easier for a newby to use.
Yes, installing software is fairly simple, but everything you install
is compiled from source, there are no binary packages in gentoo,
though it does support installing them if you built your own, or if
someone gives you an already built binary package. Since all the
sources you use are a part of portage, the gentoo repository, you are
probably less likely to get compilation errors then by using official
source tarballs, but you won't escape getting them I don't think, and
are probably more likely to get them then if you were when installing
binary packages from something like debian or fedora.
