Can't boot fedora

Hi guys,
I recently brought the four-cd set of the speakup modified distribution from Cheapbytes (not sure of the spelling, it was a link I found on the linux-speakup.org site), and burned my own boot CD (from the boot.iso image). But after the boot cd has finished (without a problem), I put the cd labeled "Install 1" into my drive and press ok, and it says "no fedora cd was found that matches your boot media". Does this mean I have to create images of the CDs from cheap bytes and burn them onto disks, like the one I booted from???

Follow the instructions in the INstallation HOWTO.

You are not supposed to burn a separate boot disk. You're looking for
trouble trying to invent that way.

Sorry, what do you mean? CheapBytes sent me the four disks of FC3, but not 
the boot CDs, or the RescueCD, so I burned the Boot.iso image (from 
ftp.linus-speakup.org) to a CD and booted from it, Disk 1 (that CheapBytes 
sent) wouldn't boot, but it said in the instalation guide (from 
linux-speakup.org) that it didn't usually anyway.

Which CD should I use to boot?

for the last time, read the HOWTO.

The first of those four disks IS a bootable disk.

Make sure that your BIOS, if it is supported,  is set up so that the CD is
the first boot mech in the boot sequence and drop the 1st CD in and bounce
the PC.  You most certainly don't need the boot/root floppies to start the
installation process nor, hmmmmmm, from memory I don't think the floppies
are recommended nowadays.  Perhaps Janina can clarify that point as I don't
myself have time to dive into the FAQ's to check, etc.

Floppy boots haven't been supported for some time. I honestly don't
remember whether it was Redhat 9 or Redhat 8 that was the last to
support booting from floppy diskette. But it definitely is no longer
supported.

PS: I recall no statement as you assert.

If you are questioning something in the howto, please quote it
precisely, and please provide the version number of the HOWTO you're
quoting from. You are using the current HOWTO, aren't you?

The HOWTO has been carefully updated for each release over the years.
Circumstances change, and the HOWTO has attempted to track those things.
I cannot respond to your statement by going fishing for something that
looks like what you might be referring to.

I am not sure if these are the sections that are being referred to, but it
could be a little confusing to a first time reader. I will enclose what I
believe to be the point of confusion with my initials, SD, to help you
identify and provide feedback.

Downloading Required Files

The Speakup Modified Fedora Distribution is provided as a set of eight CD
ROM images, called ISO images, on the Speakup Modified Fedora Distribution
Home Page. These are the files whose filenames end in the ".iso" extension.
Only the first four of these eight .iso files are absolutely required to
install the Speakup Modified Fedora Distribution.
SD: In addition, many people will also need either the rescuecd.iso, the
diskboot.img, or ithe boot.iso image to boot the installation. SD>
Be sure that you have a total of about 4.5 gigabytes of free disk space in
the directory to which you're downloading them--should you decide to
download all 8 of them. Remember, you only really need the first four, and
SD: possibly either the rescuecd.iso, the diskboot.img, or the boot.iso
image,  SD>
(and about 2.4 gigabytes of free disk space) for the installation .iso image
files.

Booting the Installation

At long last you are ready to begin installing the Speakup Modified Fedora
distribution. Start a text-based installation with speech by booting your
bootable

image, or by booting the first installation CD ROM disk.

SD: NOTE:If booting the first installation CD ROM doesn't work for you, as

Hi mate, when I put the first disk in and boot the PC (I've done warm and 
otherwise), nothing happens.

The how-to I'm using is V5.0, 1 January 2005. Has it been updated since 
then? It's FC3 I'm installing.

The line about the first CD not booting says:

you can just create a CD ROM of the i386-disc1.iso image because this first 
CD ROM image also creates a bootable CD ROM--though it currently doesn't 
boot for all users.

Has this been changed?

OK, Steve. This does make sense.

But, do we know for a fact that the first ISO doesn't boot for Chris?
That is the starting point.

Thereafter, we have to ascertain that he created the coorect boot media,
created it correctly, and got a correct burn/copy, and applied it
correctly. Picky, I know. But that's debugging.

Still no guarantee, unfortunately.
