Hello,
I have fedora core 3 installed.
what version of gnome comes with this?
I checked the version of gdm, and it says 2.6.0, would this be my version of gnome?
also I noticed on gnomes website that there exists a 2.10 version now of gnome would it be safe to update to 2.10? thanks

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
I don't know a simple way to tell for sure, but:
rpm -q gnome-session
should be pretty accuarte, I think.
The default with FC3 is gnome 2.8.
Updating is not trivial, and I would only do it with a backup, if I
actually relied on it. On the other hand, if you don't really rely on
the desktop, there's nothing to lose.
You might want to consider using the current test release that will
become Fedora 4 eventually. That would give you gnome 2.10.

Has anyone gotten Gnopernicus to work? I looked briefly at the installation
instructions I found and it looks like a bear to setup. Any news on how well
it actually works or what one can expect to be able to do with it will be
helpful here. I'm planning on attempting to set it up in the next month at
MIT, but I'm curious to know other's experiences with it.
Thanx in advance...

Since it hasn't even gone beta yet, that should be sufficient answer to
your questions.
Yes, I've haad it compiled and working on two occassions. It doesn't do
much yet. Mine is now again broken, by the way. I wasn't prepared to
maintain an environment specifically for it.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to be beta by late fall or early winter 2002. Did that deadline get moved, or am I wrong in my recollections?
Does anyone know when it's supposed to be beta?

Your recollection is correct. But "supposed to be" often doesn't prove
true, especially in the creation of new software. You may have noticed
that software scheduled to be aavailable in six months rarely is. It's a
case of RSN, also known as "real soon now."
