Subject: Using tar to tar up my Gentoo speakup-enabled environment
Date: Sat, 30 Dec 2006 11:25:11 -0700	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <000a01c72c3f$d7d1a130$6401a8c0@YOUR3ADE1B78A3> (raw)

Hello all,
while this isn't exactly speekup related,
I am trying to figure out how to do this correctly, without having a sudden problem.
I will be booting with a debian CD-Rom, in orderto tar up my Gentoo-environment.
Now: Here is the issue.
I wish to tar it directly to a remote computer, via an ssh-incripted session.
I am attempting here to tar the entire slash, file system.
And force that tarball to end up somewhere else.
The file will be probably over 4 gigs, unless it can be compressed.
Any suggestions on the best tar-compression, and what exactly is the command-syntax needed to have my goal met?
Thanks a lot all.
Happy new year,
regards
