It didn't go through it's proper testing?
Well, could you perhaps have that proper testing take place?
I would rather that happened before I touch it.
As I have stated in a previous post, the day Mr. Tayler runs Speakup and
Speechd-up without speechd-up being chrashed by the C interface library, I
will kindly try it.
But the effort it takes to crash speechd-up (to have our suspect C library)
crash spechd-up is just too little.
I just booted into my Linux OS on this dual-boot box only to have
speech-crash within 3 seconds of moving around the screen.
It's been an upsetting issue for several months now, practically rendering
my Linux box useless. Please keep me updated, either on or off list by
sending an email to:
keithint38@CommSpeed.net
I am sitting on the edge of my chair waiting for the day that
speech-dispatcher 0.62 and speechd-up0.5 are released, or whatever.
Just as long as there is a day that speakup is at least useable with
speechd-up without having to constantly restart it.
Regards,
-Keith

Well, if you tried sitting also on the edge of the Speech Dispatcher by
testing the CVS tarballs that Hynek Hanke provided, that might help
solving these problems for you and others as well. Without knowing that
this fix really fixes the problem it doesn't make much sense to release
a new version. The warning was more because this unofficial version
should not be distributed than because it is something exceptionally
dangerous... Thank you very much for any feedback.

Kindest regards, Tomas

Hello Keith,

I think there is a misunderstanding going on there. Given the very
limited resources we Free Software accessibility developers have
and given the model of Free Software development itself, the
developement of software is highly dependent on the help we receive from
the community. We depend on your help with our software and with our
motivation to continue the work. See us as your colleagues, not your
slaves. (This is very different from the proprietary model of
developement of software.)

In this particular case, we need confirmation from someone reporting the
bug, that the issue has been fixed before we proceed with making the
release. I don't see how we could test it on our machines since it is
not crashing on our machines (including AMD64). I'd like to stress that
it is you, not me, who can make the release faster or slower.

But if you don't want to experiment, this is ok. You are not required to
(the exact reason of my warning). Just have patience. Some other people
will test it. Lorenzo Taylor was very helpful in this. I hope there will
be an official release as soon as possible.

Have a nice day,
Hynek Hanke

I will be trying this latest test version shortly. I am hoping it works
as well, since I really don't like my accent voice. <smile> I would
love more than anything to be able to stop using the accent again.

Well, unfortunately the latest tarball labeled 0.6.2test2 and the latest
CVS speechd-up doesn't seem to solve the problem. It so far hasn't died
in 3 seconds, but it seems to die after anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes of
use. I'm not sure where the problem is now, but I can provide another
backtrace if needed.

HTH,
Lorenzo

Well said. Actually, I would have put it quite differently but
that's only cause I am a dumb ass redneck who would not have been
quite so polite!
