Hi all.
I just got back to my system, and when I type in root as the username, it
acts as if that's invallid.
What's wrong?
Ameer

That may be a subtle, but sure sign of system compromise. In the meantime, try going single user and changing Root's password? Either that, or you perhaps mistakenly did something that would prevent you from logging in? Hi Ameer. Did you make sure the caps lock is not on on the console you are trying to use for rroot login? I know it's obvious, but sometimes it's the obvious things that get over looked. I can log into my normal user (all lowercase), and it works fine. The thing is, with root, it doesn't even prompt for a password, just spits me out. Can you become root with the "su" command after logging in as a normal user? Not sure what that will tell us, but I am curious. Ameer, When you try to log in as root and it fails, what console are you using? Is that console mentioned in /etc/securetty? Only consoles mentioned in that file will support root logins, although normal users might log in okay.
