I all,
I am working on the festival packages, and I had a question for those of
you using Slackware. Should I include the mbrola voices? The reason I
ask is because these are not GPL. I can either include them, not include
them, or distribute them as a seperate package. What is everyone's
opinion on this?

My advise would be to include them as a separate package, provided
that the license doesn't prohibit redistribution as a binary package.

I may not be a slackware user, but I vehemently disagree with that. Include
them in the package.
Thanks,
Nick

What's your reasoning behind your proposal? The reasoning behind my
proposal is the obvious licensing conflict that putting both in the
same package would pose.

As so many distributions of Festival are around including Flite,
Flinger, and FreeTTS, which also includes Mbrola voices I feel almost sure
that Mbrola Voices can be distributed in a Festival package. However, I do
not imply that I know everythin about the licences of both programs. I rest
my case, I will no longer speak on this issue.
Thanks,
Nick

That's a good point greg.
if the licence for mbrola allows you to package it up as a binary and
redistribute it separately by all means do so.
otherwise it's up to us.

I would personally think the mbrella voices should go in a separate
package. Frankly, I didn't know they were compatible with Festival -
I thought it had its own engine. The end user can install both
packages if he / she wants those additional voices. I say this since
each has a separate license. Both licenses might permit binary
distribution but still. I would think it would be cleaner that way.
