Hi all. Do I need the X11 components installed in order to install
gnome-2.4? Such as the Xserver, fonts, base-libs, etc? I'm trying to get
it working so that my girlfriend can use graphics instead of Bash all the
time because its easier for her for the time being.

I'm really interested in getting Gnome installed. Now that 2.4 has been
released have they made the installation any easier? If I wait until
Red hat has included it in their release will it be set up at
installation?

Thanks

Yes. Gnome is an X desktop, so you need a working X setup before you can
use any GUI desktop like KDE or Gnome. I made sure I had X working
before I installed Gnome.

Btw, it was easy to get DVD playback working by just telling the player
to use the X interface to the video card. I just start the player from
a run dialog in Gnome. I use ogle because it supports DVD navigation.
It has keyboard shortcuts for most everything. You won't get any
feedback from Gnopernicus, but that's not a problem.

Well...I have currently installed the Xserver and have it configured, the
xlibs(as far as I know). I installed the xfree86-common package, and also
the Xserver. I also installed Xfonts-base, Xfonts-100DPI, and
Xfonts-scalable to be on the safe side. Amything I am missing relating to
my X setup?
