Root disk help

[Ryan]

Hi,

     I'm trying to make a root disk. I typed
rawrite color.gz a:

and it says
address mark not foundctor:  1

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Put your rawrite.exe program in the same directory where your image is and
then type

rawrite

then, just respond to the prompts.

There are two things I would look into with your problem creating boot
disks. The first is that the file you have may have been corupted. It is
aesy enough to test by downloading another disk image to try. (It need not
even have speakup in the kernel. The point is to test making the disk.)

The second thing that I would suspect is that your floppy is bad. Can you
format the disk from DOS? (Use "format a: /u") The more I think about your
error message, the more I suspect that this is the problem.

I tried it this way and get the same thing. I tryed it on two computers and 
no luck.
I can make the boot disk just fine. I'm not sure what to do. does anyone 
have any suggestions?

I got it.

I had to download it with a ftp program. Micro softs IE did something to it 
when I used it to download.
I don't know what but I used WS FTP and know it works.

Ryan.  Get another copy of color.gz and try it again.  Sounds like it got
corrupted in some way.  Try the text.gz that is in the
/pub/speakup/disks/slackware/slackware7.1 directory on linux-speakup.org.
Make sure that you are getting them in binary mode.

Stupid question, but did you try another floppy disk? One more thing. Try to
first format this disk with DOS format utility and then try rawriting again.
Also, you might try to rawrite in a plain DOS mode rather in Windows DOS
box.

Dear Rian,

may I offer a recomindation for a speech friendly ftp protical program?  I
myself use this, and find it is wonderful, for it has a windows explorer
interface.  It is called FTP explorer, and can be downloaded from
ftp://ftp.ftpx.com/pub/fptx

I hope you consider this, and if you do, you will also find that it is also
free!
