I have been trying to find some documentation on how to call up software
speech in the Fedora Live CD.
Is there a boot menu that comes up like in Ubuntu?

You're supposed to be able to do the usual gestures at GDM, e.g. Ctrl-S
for a few seconds to start speech, Ctrl-M for magnification, etc.

No guarantees. This is all new--but upstream reports will be
appreciated.

There will be more support via Fedora LIve as time goes on. This is an
area of active interest and development.

Janina,

I have heard this doesn't work too well. I have pointed that out to the
development people over at Fedora and a guy I think his name was Dave not
the one who does the kernel but a different one said they would try to have
better support in Fedora 8.

Hi...
I was wondering if there is a website where I could purchase a disk
with both Linux and Speakup. Could someone suggest the best version for
someone who has never used Linux. Is it as easy to install and use
linux as Windows. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  Charlie

Charlie, I'm presently using the Fedora 7 version of linux that is modified for use with speakup. You can find it at

http://www.speakupmodified.org

There's good documentation on the site for installing and updating the software. There are a couple of points during installation when you might rather be drinking molten lead than bothering with Fedora, but you can survive the journey and come out of it with a good system.

I doubt there's a general rule as to whether Linux or Windows is the easier operating system to learn. I've taken a long time to learn what I know, which is little enough, but others seem to have trucked along with all deliberate speed. I think it's correct to say that there are agreat many more variants of Linux than of Windows, and, predictably, some are easier to learn than others.

I hope this helps some.

Al

Yes, this is developing technology. Like so much in open source, you get
to watch it grow.
