To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
Have you followed the instructions in our installation HOWTO? It sounds
like you have not.
You're probably bumping into firstboot. The only answer is to boot into
single user mode--or get sighted assistance.
The lack of output during the boot is the rhgb=quiet setting in
grub.conf. It's OK to delete that directive.

If Linux can't solve your computing problem, you need a different problem.

Did this resolve the issue? Or are you still not getting booted?
I'm unclear.

OK. So, can you boot into single user mode?

OK I give up.
I gotta ask the experts.
I got red hat 8 installed last week (only took me 4 times) and we won't go
in to the names I called my computer. surfises to say some of the plastic
parts are melted now. I got my network working and have pine reading and
sending email I am proud of my self for getting this far.
but I can't fix speakup
now for my questions.
1. How do I speed up the synth he is reading about 2 words a minute. I am
using a dectalk express.
started out using a lite talk but I couldn't understand it well enough to
do the install so on the 4th try I used the dectalk
2. How do i get the dectalk from going nuts every time he sees an upper
case letter. He sounds like someone squeezed his private parts and he
stays that way till I turn him off and back on again.
I also get command error in parameter. I remember this from when I use to
program stuff in msdos and didn't get the parm quite right. Where can i go
to put in the correct parameters.
you can email me at Sam-I-Am@sc.rr.com and I thank you in advance.
Going nuts.
Sam
I look forward to getting back into programming again. I got burned out
trying to get the ide's in windows to work with screen readers and quit.
How things change and stay the same at the same time.

To get the speech back to a normal pitch, hit the plus and minus keys a few
times on the number pad with numb pad turned off.

I was never told this. Is this version specific, mine does cursor
parking with the - key and reading the screen from the top with the +
key. Do I take it these have changed function in later versions. I
admit the version supplied with Slackware 9 is 1.0 would you believe.
Is there an easy to run .tgz to update this perhaps?

Hi:
I need major help and quickly. I seem to have stuffed one of our systems.
Whenever I try to invoke bash, which is somewhat central to this whole
linux experience thing, I get the following:
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dynamic-link.h: 62: elf_get_dynamic_info:
Assertion `! "bad dynamic tag"' failed!
What on earth have I done and how can I fix it? I couldn't properly
shutdown and reboot, guess why? A cold reset didn't help either.
I need to fix this quickly or my life will not be worth living.
Geoff.

Hi Jeff,
Are you still in need of help, or did you fix this issue? If not, you may
want to do a search on google.com using that error. There's lots of
information, though it is not directly related to your specific issue. Have
you done anything recently, before noticing your issue, such as build and
compile a new kernel for your box?

I may be grasping at straws here but perhaps you could boot the thing
with a floppy and do *NOT* mount your primary partition as the root
system. Then mount your main file system as an additional linux file
system and use the install setup for your distro and reinstall bash.
It sounds to me like some critical libraries needed for bash are
missing. But then again, I could be picking at straws here. Haven't
had that experience yet.
