Hi
For ages now I haven't been able to get speak freely to work on a number of installations. I wondered how I could get more information? I get an error similar to : sfmike cannot initialise audio. So how can I establish what's going on? Is there a log I haven't found? Can I use a switch that'll give debugging messages on standard out?
As anyone got speak freely to work on a system using udev? Is that my problem? Or as anyone successfully compiled speak freely to use alsa?
Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated, as I'm just itching to bug those guys on the speak freely reflector! <giggles>

Hey Gena. I'm using speak freely with a 2.6.21.3 version of the kernel,
and alsa 2.14.0. It could be a udev problem, or it could be a couple of
other things. Did you remember to run the snddevices script that comes
with the drivers source as root? Have you tried including the
-dNEED_LINEAR option in the makefile? Just a couple of thoughts. Hury
up and fix it, we miss picking on you and Mike on the reflecter.

Hi guys, I've just installed Red Hat 7.0 as it's the only release I have
here on cd.
my trouble is, after having compiled kernel 2.4.4 and the alsa sound
drivers, and all the necissaries,
I can't get the $ user to send any audio is it because I don't have them
added to the right groups?
bill if you're following some help would be greatly appreciated.
Shaun..

just to add to that, the error I'm getting from sfmike when I try to
transmit is:
"Unable to initialise audio"
then it forks and leaves my console in such a state where I need to
logout and back in again to restore everything.
