Hello all: 

Has my apology been excepted? 

Any how, some times you got to throe a spike in to the mix.  
Building a Linux box over a dialup connection, with a 2.5K per second download at the best of times, 
is next to impossible.  

I am well a where that Redhat 7.0 might be on the not up to date side, but what's one to do.  
I have inquired about Slackware 8.0 locally but the gentleman isn't in to much of a hurry in providing me with a copy.  I don't relish the idea of trying to get it over my dialup.  
There is a Transport boot image available for Redhat 7.0, Redhat 7.0 and the Artic Transport Classic is what I have,  so I got to try an fly with it, at least until the new year, when high speed will be available in my area.

Well, you could give us a chance to actually help you. We have been known 
to do that.

I, for one, am happy to accept your apology. But that doesn't make it 
possible for me to help you. 

So, here's what I think you can do:

Lay out your needs and leave it at that. If you go on and on about what 
you think, what can we possibly tell you? You are certainly welcome to 
your opinions. But, that won't get you a working linux system, or much 
good will.

So, let me try again:

You should download an up to date floppy disk image. Even at 2.5 you can 
do that. Let's see if we can get the first step talking

You can always order a slackware cd set for under 10 dollars if you want
to go with slackware.  also i'm sure some of us with high speeds can burn
a cd for you if you can't order one yourself.  All it costs is the cost of
a blank cd and a beer in most cases.

OK ALREADY:

Is this the way that we treat new users?

I have noticed a few new names on the list over the last little while,
and I for one wouldn't want them to think that we are an unfriendly or
know it all bunch of ........!

Yes, it is important to read the answers to the questions that are
posed.  
Yes, it is important to let people know where to find things.
Yes, it is useful when we share hints on how to get started.
Yes, it is important to make suggestions based on our knowledge or
experience(s).
Yes, we all share our thoughts and ideas on a voluntarily bases.

These are just a few things that I have always thought has made this
list great, and that this group is made up of a great bunch of people.

People like Kirk R., Bill A., Frank C., Gene C., Keith W., to mention a
few, have been fantastic with their assistance and sharing of knowledge
/ information.  

I was once a newbie, and still think that I know very little when it
comes to Linux.  
So I would like to say thank you for all the help and suggestions that I
have received to date, and that I hope that it continues!

Before I forget!  Welcome to the list Michael, and I hope that you are
able to get a Linux machine up and running that will meet your needs!
