Hi
I've been away from the list for a while and come back to see that there
kernels for the Dectalk Express and Redhat installation. However, I'm stuck
on the partitioning tool. I've tried selecting my options but I can't be
doing it right. I have the appropriate partitions ready for an
installation, which are: /dev/hda2 = Linux native and /dev/hdb2 = Linux
swap 82.
I wondered if I could just use the function keys and type the appropriate
values, without using the curser keys to point to the selection?
Thanks for the Dectalk & Redhat support.

Just call me at the number at the top of this message, or send me your number. I'm pretty sure that the rates are better from the US to the UK rather than the other way round. WHile the text installation of Redhat is speechfriendly for the most part, the partitioning phase is simply confusing. I just guessed by trial and error. If you do it wrong, simply cancell the operation and go back to try something else. I find Disk Druid to be extremely straight forward once you understand what is going on. Gina, I tried to send a note in reply to your note yesterday, but I am not sure if it was cleared by Kirk. I received a message that said the note would not be sent with out his approval, so if you didn't get it yet, sorry. The note I am referring to, outlines how to work your way through Disk Druid. If you are totally confused, look for me on the Speakup Reflector tomorrow. I live in Calgary, Canada, and we are on MDT. I will be in and out on the reflector during the day. > -----Original Message----- > From: speakup-admin@braille.uwo.ca > [mailto:speakup-admin@braille.uwo.ca]On Behalf Of Victor Tsaran > Sent: Saturday, July 15, 2000 4:40 PM > To: speakup@braille.uwo.ca > Subject: Re: Installing Redhat 6.2 with Speakup > > > Yes, I agree. Could you please share your recommendation with all interested ,for example, myself? I for the most part have no troubles with DiskDruid except for the boxes to choose type of partition. For instance, in the first edit box I type the mount point, then I tab once. Speakup says: "Size 1 type: Linux swap". I tab again and I hear "Grow to fill type: Linux native" Then, I tab once more and I hear: "Disks to choose from:" ... ... OK, I understand that "grow to fill" is a checkbox, but where I choose partition type? It works well with Speakup. F1 add partition. Then the first field, / where your cursor lands when you open the add window, is the partition name. E.G. / , /var /usr /pub ... and left blank for swap. The next field, by pressing tab, is the size of the partition. It defaults to 1 mg. You will need to backspace over the 1 if your size does not include a leading 1. enter the size of the partition here. The next field, tab, is whether the partition should grow to fill the available space on the drive. To check it, press the space bar. If it is checked, you will her (*) otherwise, you will here ). The next field, tab, is the partition type, use up and down arrows to pick the type of partition. To confirm your choice, press insert + 8 . The next field, is the checked by default, and I have never had to uncheck it. It is to do with the physical drive you are partitioning. Then you will tab to ok, and press enter. As you create the various partitions, they will be added to a list. you can use the up and down arrow keys to select which ever on you need. F3 edit, allows you to make changes to the partitions that you have configured. F4, delete, allows you to delete the selected partition. I am doing this from memory, so sorry if I have made any mistakes. If you have any additional questions, you will find me on the Speakup reflector, lwl.braille.uwo.ca:4074 this weekend. This is a speak freely reflector. You can get the speak freely program from, www.speakfreely.org Or you can write me at the speak list, or at home, sdawes@telusplanet.net I hope this helps!
