Hello!
I'm about to try out speakup with debian.
Does it work?
If it does, how do you get it to work? with fedora I just installed a kernel rpm.
But there is no such patch for debian, can I get some help?
/Kristoffer

Hi,
The Speakup kernel for Etch is not in the main Etch repository, but you can
still get it.
Go to http://people.debian.org/~shane and you'll find both Speakup kernel
packages and Speakup-enabled netinst CD images.
Good luck,
Geoff.

Hello!
Ok, great!
I'm installing the latest test version, because I want the latest packages,
and install with brltty.
Can I still get speakup to work?
/Kristoffer

http://people.debian.org/~shane/netinst/ download the netinst iso file
then burn it to a CD. I'm using debian with speakup as I write so yes it
does work. When you boot that CD, there are some kernels on it. The one
you want to boot is 26test followed by a space and the name of your
hardware synthesizer ltlk for litetalk in my case then hit return. There
is a mainmenu on demand program up on the http://www.acbradio.org of a
debian speakup install demonstration. If you can find what episode that
is and listen to it first you'll probably do okay.

Hello!
I've allready listened to that one.
The problem is that I've not got a hardware synth, but ttsynth, so I need to
install with brltty.
I've got the 4 testing dvd:s here on my computer, how many of them will I
need to burn to disk to be able to perform an install?
/Kristoffer

You want to install grml from http://www.grml.org/ that's also a speakup
debian but with sound card speech and it's security hardened too. If you
get that one grml swspeak gets the sound card speaking. You run the
grml2hd script to do hard disk installation.

I would like to try Debian on my laptop. Unfortunately, I don't have a
floppy drive. Is there a way to install Debian with speakup without the
use of floppies?
Thanks,
Lorenzo
