hi all, are there any plans to port mfc to linux? that is, since mfc is
just a class library they could make a x compiler, making all mfc
programs work under x?

The answer to this question lies in the dark.
It can only be answered by the those who determine how
Microsoft will face their future.

Hi:
MFC didn't come up during the meeting, as I recall.
However, MainSoft has licensed the source for the entire Microsoft Visual
Studio Suite of development tools, so they probably would feel they've
covered that
PS: On linux, they use GNU to compile.

Actually if you read through their page it does say they have stuff going
with Mfc it doesn't exactly point out that it will be in linux but you can
infer anything you like.
I have been saying for months that Microsoft is a dead OS. Remember the
driving source for Microsoft as an operating system has been Bill Gates
just like Jobs was the driving force for Mac remember what happened to Mac
OS when jobs stepped down the same is going to happen here. Bill gates
didnt' step down as the CEO of Microsoft on a wim notice where he stepped
into from the CEO he stepped into the head of applications development.
The Microsoft OS 2000 is a disgrace we have run it on several business
applications and deleted the entire OS 4 days later do to so many problems
with the networking stuff that we just got sick of fighting with it. The
place where Microsoft made their money orignally was a window environment
for Dos and the applications it ran. Once again this will be the case in
Linux which will mean Microsoft the Application company will be around for
a long time and I wouldn't be supprized to see a Microsoft Linux release
like you see Redhat and Caldera now. Bill Gates is not stupid if he can't
beat them out right he will join them and slowly try and take it over. I
think it would be great to see Star Office, Aplix Wear and Microsoft
Office competing neck and neck in fact it would probably finally mean we
get a true standard descktop instead of this bastardized environment that
Microsoft is pushing on us.
Oh well Hmmm I wonder if this descussion about this whole microsoft issue
realy belongs on this list hmm I guess it does since no one has complained
yet.

i hope that this is relevant, i think it is. i have been told that
win2000 can only be installed once, and never again. this would
mean that once you have decided to partition your hd, or buy a new
hd, you need to buy a new copy of windows. is this right? the
reason it is on topic is that if it is true then many people including
me will change to linux tommorow!

This is lie. You can install WIndows2000 as many times as you want.

Hi,
With all this talk about Microsoft licensing Internet Explorer out to Linux
developers, has anyone seen what Corel is doing with regard to Linux?
They have a free version of WordPerfect V8 for Linux. It is of course
unfortunately X based, but they also have a distribution of Linux available.
The Linux distribution is free as a ISA96 image file on their web site,
I think it is about 380MB, and it is available as well on CD for $4.95.
I think they are not happy about the lack of headway they have made against
Microsoft in recent years, and are trying to get on the Linux band wagon
early. That is at least earlier than Microsoft! They also have a number
of other Linux offerings on their web site. I don't know much of anything
about their packages, but it may be worth taking a look at.
For those interested in scoping out what they have and are doing, their
site is:
