Jim:

I know that SPSS is available. I'm not sure for what flavors of Unix, but
I believe it's command driven so may be accessible. I bet you could get an
eval copy out of them. Try calling Beth Reynolds at 312 651 3561.

You can download the source from

There is also a Debian package (which I maintain).

have you tested the ocrshop program of vividata?

www.vividata.com/ocrshop or something very similar,

do you know if it is written in text or gui mode? I read about a gui support
optional for linòux, so I think that the normal linux version is in text mode. 
many mail office in USA did use it since any years,

please  email me any answere , also by simply visiting www.vividata.com to read
about ocrshop, I live in Italy and  I'm not very friendly with english!

Scaricato, installato testato e, purtroppo scaduto...
Il programma funziona benissimo anche da shell testuale, in più lingue tra le
quali l'italiano. Stavo pensando proprio di fare un qualche script per
scannerizzare le immagini con gli scanner supportati da sane, che sono di più
di quelli di OcrShop, mandare l'input sottoforma di tif a ocrshop da riga di
comando, e poi in batch schiaffare un libro intero su file, o, se in inglese
leggere tutto direttamente con mbrola... Ti piace l'idea? A me sì ma mi è
scaduta la licenza...

thanks to Max Perantoni, but don't forget that this list is in english so that
entire world will be able. youy was answerring to me or to the list, pkease,
remember it when writing the next message.

Max  did test the ocr shop program, it works very well also in text mode, he is
thinking about a script in order to scan files with shane, that has a larger
number of scanner supported, and then transfer to ocrshop for the ocr proces, 

good idia Max,  but shane uses a normal twain driver aor does it support  each
specific scanner with its ohn driver?
often, using the specific driver the scannin proces is mutch faster than using
the standart twain driver, I  have this edperience with omnipro9 in windows,

Sorry to anybody worldwide, I thought I ansewred to Daniele's Personal Address,
not to the list, I always post in english here, it's been just a mistake...
I tested that program with success, but my time was too short to test it in
deep, they give just one month to do it, that it's too short time at least for
me. Actually it works in text mode even the Ocr, so it may be a good way to
make a multipipe to listen tha scanned text directly for example mith Mbrola.
