Debee has it right. Don't forget to use the save command when you have the host parameters set right. 8 data bits, 9600 baud is what speakup expects. I have one of these old DecTalks too. I was actually the one who suggested to Kirk that he modify the express driver to work with the old external DecTalk. It's quite stable and extreemly useful, though the old DecTalk part number algorithm is anoying. Gene
