I use apcalc (the actual command when using it is calc). You can type 
"calc" and work within the program, or just type for example:
calc 21+58=74+63
and be given the answer and returned to your normal prompt. I mainly use 
it for simple math, but it lookslike it has a lot of features I've never 
used.
