Sorry, I am majorly confused here. Are you using speakup and working on
the console? Or are you telneting to a linux box via winblows?

I don't know how you think you can make a generic synth driver. Though not
an expert, all reader programs I know of use hardware specific
drivers. And do you have access to all the synths you want to use? Most of
us are too poor for that.
