Alsa will give you more control over the SB Live, if you wish to use the Speakup lwl reflector for example, you'll need the alsa drivers. There is some documentation on Speakup regarding alsa. Hi, the SB Live is one of the best soundcards to use under Linux. I use it myself. All you need to do is open up /etc/rc.d/modules and uncomment the module line for the SB Live. It was something like enu10a, or something close to that.
