To sum up, it=E2=80=99s a Portaudio bug which has been noticed thanks to = an Alsa upgrade, and there is a temporary workaround. All you need to do = is edit =E2=80=9Cespeakup.service,=E2=80=9D or create a drop-in snippet. = In the [Service] section, put the line Environment=3DLIBASOUND_THREAD_SAFE=3D0 Case is important here, and the way I did it was to just do =E2=80=9Csudo = systemctl edit espeakup.service.=E2=80=9D I hope this helps.
