Anyway if there isn't for some reason there is always the speakup-source package you can revert to for compiling speakup for your debian kernel. I can't remember if you can use module-assistant for speakup, if you can it should be as simple as running the command: module-assistant a-i speakup While running the kernel you want to compile against. I think there is an option for compiling it against a kernel other than the running kernel but can't remember it now.
