I only suggest it because it has Speakup built-in. I have no idea if it would work or not but I would be interested in finding out. I'm not running Ubuntu. Look at http://deb.grml.org/ and look in the linux-image-* directories. You could also add the grml repository to /etc/apt/sources.list. Of course if you don't have speech, none of this probably does any good. I have no idea how Ubuntu kernels differ from Debian or how grml differs from either.
