Subject: speech-dispatcher-git: Spawn Failed
Date: Mon, 09 Jul 2018 07:50:50 -0500	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20180709.125050.386.27@[192.168.1.146]> (raw)

So now that I have speech-dispatcher installed, when I try to test it, I get a rather odd error message:
spd-say "hi"
Failed to connect to Speech Dispatcher:
Error: Can't connect to unix socket /run/user/1001/speech-dispatcher/speechd.sock: No such file or directory. Autospawn: Autospawn failed. Speech Dispatcher refused to start with error code, stating this as a reason:
When I manually go
sudo speech-dispatcher
No error pops up.
When I looked at
grep speech-dispatcher /var/log/daemon.log
All I saw was:
Jul 9 05:36:44 trainserve speech-dispatcher[4767]: speech-dispatcher disabled; edit /etc/default/speech-dispatcher.
So I went in there and it says
run=no
So I changed that to yes. No go; same error.
There is a folder
/var/log/speech-dispatcher
but the only thing in there is a file called
cicero-executable.log
and it is empty.
Appreciate any help here.
