This is because when in an ssh session, the screen size you get
depends on the client, not on the server. So, if you're sitting at a
machine that is configured for a larger screen, and you ssh into a
machine from there which isn't configured for a larger screen, you
will still get the larger screen size in your ssh session, because of
the configuration of the machine in front of which you're actually
sitting presently.
