Never mind. I just had an inspiration to go check ubuntu's archives,
and they still have 1.0.15.3. For anyone wanting to downgrade reading
this, you  can find it at:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/a/alsa-lib/libasound2_1.0.15-3ubuntu3_i386.deb

There is also a amd64 deb in that directory. I installed it, rebooted
to be very sure everything was configured right, since a reboot broke
it last time after the upgrade, and sure enough, the problem is gone
now. Don't forget to tell dpkg to hold that package.
