Don't forget to make yourself an initrd. For your reference, here's my /boo= t/grub/grub.conf: cut here # grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You do not have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /, eg. # root (hd0,0) # kernel /boot/vmlinuz-version ro root=3D/dev/hda1 # initrd /boot/initrd-version.img #boot=3D/dev/hda default=3D0 timeout=3D20 #splashimage=3D(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz title =07Fedora Core (2.6.5-1.358spk)=07 root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358spk ro root=3DLABEL=3D/ vga=3D0x31B initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.5-1.358spk.img cut here Notice the Ctrl-G in the title line? This causes the PC speaker to beep whe= n you get to this stage of the boot. This is handy in case you want to do s= omething non standard, like go into single user mode. You need to eliminate the splash image for this to work. In my case, I just= renamed the file by giving it a .bk extension. Initial= ly, you will need to install most, if not all, of the packages from FC1. Un= fortunately, in /etc/yum.conf, yum is set to upgrade to the latest release = of Fedora Core 1. What I ended up doing was replacing the $releasever strin= gs in the base and update URL's to the number 2. Probably not the best thin= g to do I'm sure, but that along with the exclude line in Janina's prior po= st got me all of FC2, save the 2.6 Speakup image. I've installed it from th= e RPM package from the Speakup FTP server, so once I figure out how to reco= nfigure grub, I'll be set. This is by no means guaranteed to work for anyon= e else, but I thought the list might be interested to know that it appears = to have worked. Note that this takes a *very* long time, even on a broadban= d connection (about 4 hours for me). I hope the hardware issue, whatever it= may be, will be corrected some time soon, but in the mean time things are = looking much better. >=20 > Thanks, > Steve >=20 >=20 > Stephen Clower, that guy from the south. > You can reach me by any of the following: > E-Mail: steve@steve-audio.net > MSN: steve@steve-audio.net > AIM: AudioRabbit03 >=20 > You can also check out my little home on the web by visiting http://www.s= teve-audio.net > =20 >=20 >=20 > _______________________________________________ > Speakup mailing list > Speakup@braille.uwo.ca > http://speech.braille.uwo.ca/mailman/listinfo/speakup --=20 =09 Janina Sajka, Director Technology Research and Development Governmental Relations Group American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) Chair, Accessibility Workgroup Free Standards Group (FSG) Email: janina@afb.net Phone: (202) 408-8175
