List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: Yes, and I did send a posting to speakup about it; it was my cvs installation that was the problem. I quit trying to follow the howto, uninstalled cvs, rcs and related packages and just reinstalled cvs and used it that way as checkout had worked for me before doing that. And my kernel works!!
