In order to not waste everyone's time, I'll add that I'm toying with the idea of creating my own live linux distro. I thought that instead of complaining about other distros dropping support for speakup, I'd just make my own. Perhaps I'm not the most qualified person to do this. But I figured I'd learn as I went along. My live CD is supposed to come up talking via speakup & espeak. You can download version 0.01 at http://www.math.wisc.edu/~jheim/nitschke/nitschke-0.01.iso Note: to su to root, you'll need to enter the root password which is 'nitschke'. I've already used this live CD a couple of times to fix problems I've had with machines. But I also know it failed to speak on my workstation at work. Probably I didn't include the driver modules in the kernel. Like I said, I may not be the most qualified person to do this. We'll see. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Heim" To: "Speakup is a screen review system for Linux."
