I believe that if you cannot do it with the BIOS, you can buy an adapter
that plugs into the video out jack on the back of the laptop, that will shut
it off.

Hi all.
I didn't see a way to do this in the bios, so I thought there might be
something I don't know about to turn off the screen on a laptop under
the gnu/linux text console. I have obviously no use for it, it uses up
battery power that could be better used elsewhere, and there are times
when I'd prefer that others couldn't glance over my shoulder to see what
I'm doing. Thanks in advance.
