There is an option that I had overlooked in Text settings there are two places in outlook express for Plain Text to be set and you uncheck that box that says use > for reply, forward, etc. I don't like it either and it's a pain if you'd like to cut and paste stuff that you'd like to provide in a presentable form. They do serve a function, of course, but I can also understand why they're annoying with the current state of screen readers. Ideally, their presence at the beginning of a line of text should trigger some sonic change in the speech such as pitch, I would think.
