I'd like to get software speech going, so I can continue my origenal = idea of compiling a kernel. I started reading docks, and got as far as speech-dispatcher I've installed it, and spd-say "Hello" just hangs. as well as using = hello without the quotes. I've rebooted the service via init.d ./speech-dispatcher restart, and = also changed the synths from flite to festival, and back again to make = sure that it wasn't just the synth. Festival works perfect--I'm just having trouble communicating with the = synth via spd-say. Any ideas why its hanging? The docs on getting software speech working with speakup was rather = vague. I've also got an issue with ssh, that I thought may be able to be fixed = here. When I'm compiling, reading nampages, etc I see a lot of euros = a-circumflex marks all over. Is there something wrong with my terminal? Not sure why it's showing = that.
