As far as I know serial ports and serial connections only can support up to 38400 BPS, and that has nothing to do with processor speed, but hardware speed of the serial devices. Sure modems themselves support 115200, but going from machine to machine I believe 38400 is max over serial ports. If someone knows any different let us know, because it would be a nice thing to know. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gregory Nowak To: Sent: Monday, December 03, 2001 8:58 PM Subject: serial question > Hi all, > > I've just successfully setup a ppp link over a null-modem with my 2 machines. > The HOWTO recommends starting te connection at 38400 baud. > However theese are modern machines (a 100 MHz 486, and a 600 MHz pentium III) both with 16550a uarts. > I was wondering if I could go at 115200 instead? > Can I go even faster? > Thanks for any help in advance. > Greg > > > > _______________________________________________ > Speakup mailing list > Speakup@braille.uwo.ca > http://speech.braille.uwo.ca/mailman/listinfo/speakup
