Hi Lorenzo and Buddy,

I think I may have contributed to some confusion here, too!  Of course, you
can remotely administer a *nix box using ssh (hopefully *not* telnet!)  What
I meant was that there are a lack of freely available *nix mail servers that
sport web-based administration capabilities...

Hmmmm, user signup...  Well, my former employer used a bunch of shell
scripts, PHP and such to create a rather clunky administrative interface to
its mail servers.  It never worked very well.  I know that the Postfix MTA
(http://www.postfix.org) can operate from a LDAP directory.  PHP programs
could be written to add to and modify such a LDAP directory.
