Apollo starts talking when linux boots. The only problem is when I load network service in interactive startup apollo stops talking. For example: when I'm writting root and the password it stops talking, or after login. When I don't start this service, it goes well. As I said, I have a usb modem. I'm thinking on this problem... Is it possible that speakup stops talking due to a failure of detecting modem? My modem is a Motorola SurfBoard 4200 USB Cable Modem. How do I see if my modem is detected? And if system don't detect it what can I do? I'm confused with this situation. The steps on how to do this are explained in the howto, but I ask because you didn't mention it in your note.
