Subject: partition problems solved, and how i solved them
Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2003 11:34:08 -0800 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <000501c2fa17$ff695480$c71917cf@SETBCSpivey> (raw)
hello. i'd like to say my partition problems are solved, and email address
changed again.
i had 3 partitions. i just didn't have the table.
i did remember the sizes, but didin't have the tools.
so -- i found an old boot disk - and i was able
to just punch in the sizes. to make sure it was correct, i di the following:
dd if=/dev/hda1 | file -
dd if=/dev/hda2 | file -
etc.
it's important that you be careful, or you might end up ruining your data.
it took a while to remember the sizes though. if one partition's taking up
the rest of your drive,
you just need the sizes for the rest of them.
i'm thinking of brailling the partition table out and just hanging it on my
wall,
so i can remember the sizes i had if i want to reinstall or something like
that.
anyway - it's all fixed now, i hope.
(it's worked for a week so it's definately fixed).
i'm a bit busy right now since i have math class in minutes, so if you have
any questions, let me know.
