Dear List,

I installed mpsyt also known as? mps-youtube.

after doing a search I get this error.

Error fetching data. Possible network issue.
Youtube Error 403: The request cannot be completed because you have
exceeded your quota.

So if this is not a good app,

What would you suggest?

I want to play youtube videos in the terminal.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob: I would certainly suggest youtube-viewer from Trizen. You have a choice
of playing or downloading videos from a results list. You can launch
youtube-viewer -u=username like pbsnewshour you can also create a favorites
list-and-more easily track channels you go often.

Thanks, but youtube viewer seems too complicated.

The instructions says I need a Google ID and a secret key.

So I? looked at pipe-wire, because it claimed not to require a google ID
or key.

But its not in the Linux Mint repository.

and I get an error when trying to add it.

I'm about to give up.

Rob

You could download pipewire from its github repository and try to build it
on your system.
git close https://github.com/trizen/pipewire
if I have the url correct ought to start that process. If this is your
first compile, you'll need to do the build steps in terminal mode.
Once you've done the clone if successful, cd into the pipewire
subdirectory and find a file called Readme.md and read that so you learn
the steps to build pipewire.

Well, Rob, these days youtube-viewer can use yt-dlp which doesn't require a
key, also in many cases download speeds are nicely increased. Another similar
program of his is straw-viewer.

straw-viewer is deprecated has been superseded by pipe-viewer, according to
trizen, author of both and also of youtube-viewer. And yes aso install put
yt-dlp if not already done.

URLs:
https://github.com/trizen/pipe-viewer
https://github.com/trizen/youtube-viewer
https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

Cheers,
Didier

Should be 'git clone' and not 'git close'.
