As it says, any luck with console based clients? All I'm getting is
being sent in circles with non working Python scripts and vague blog pages.
I'm trying to get Mutt or Neomutt to still work with Gmail post nuking
of passwords, but...I can

I believe IMAP is the best choice for getting from gmail to mutt.
I describe this here.
I read that you go to your google account, enable
IMAP, generate an app-specific password, and paste the
password into your muttrc:[1]
Select your Profile icon > Manage Your Google Account > Security > App Passwords, choose an app and a device, then select Generate.
You can create and revoke app-specific passwords as you change the apps and devices you use.
Here's the gmail IMAP server info.[2]
Gmail IMAP server address: imap.gmail.com
Gmail IMAP username: Your full Gmail address (for example, example at gmail.com)
Gmail IMAP password: Your Gmail password (use an application-specific Gmail password if you enabled 2-step authentication for Gmail)
Gmail IMAP port: 993
Gmail IMAP TLS/SSL required: yes
Check the mutt docs[3] for where to enter the above parameters.
You'll also have to specify the SMTP server for your
outgoing mail.

I think it is difficult to help you if you cannot say to what extent did
those Python scripts you get fail to adrress your issue. The questions
that immediately come to my mind are did you ever use Mutt with any
other email provider such that you see its weakness in Gmail? What
happens if you use an app password? As far as I know, at no time did
Mutt fail to work with Gmail as long as you had an app password. When
looking for help, it is better to tell people where you are having
difficulties rather than being vague and too general. Most people on
this list are not having this problem with Mutt or even any other
console-based email client.

Tim here. Are you trying to access the account live/online or via
pulling mail locally with something like POP3 or using mbsync/offlineimap
to sync up mail to a local cache?
As someone else mentioned, the easiest way is to set up an "app
password", then use that as your login, whether provided in your
~/.muttrc for mutt/neomutt, or using those credentials in your
~/.mbsync or ~/.offlineimaprc file for syncing the mail to a local
maildir.

Tim
Was trying to get it live via IMAP, and correct me if I'm wron but
doesn't an app speciic password need me to respond to an
SMS/notification on my phone every single time I want to use the
password or not? Sources differ on this with some saying it does, others
it doesn't
As for the scripts not working, they sent me to 400 or 404 errors, due
to Google shifting thins around on their end. That's what I meant by not
working

Jude DaShiell here. This thread has been on mutt-users list too. Likely
the best advice that came out of that was to have gmail forward all
inbound email to an account on another provider then handle that mail on
that other provider. When I had an app-specific password in use, I got
sms messages on my phone every time I tried to use it. Something else to
consider is that app-specific passwords have already been bypassed by
d.p.r.k. state malefactors and they're reading all the email traffic of
selected targets on gmail. The best option ultimately will be to no
longer use gmail and disable those gmail accounts so you don't get charged
when your inbox exceeds google's limits.

Hi,
No, if you use an app password, your email client would log in using
that password. No need for one time password verification. OTPs are used
when you want to access a resource via a web interface. The whole idea
of an app password is that a machine logs into a resource using its own
dedicated password. So that password is specific to that machine or
application. If any security breach happens through that machine, it
would not compromise other parts of the system. For example, if you lose
your phone or computer that is already logged in with the app password,
you can simply log into Gmail and disable that password. In any case,
the password is for email access and not for say, Google drive. So you
can use your app password safely.
I think it is prudent that if any service you use has got two-factor,
just generate an app password and turn two-factor on. Then supply the
app password to Mutt and pull your emails.
