Thank you Jude: Yesterday 1 of my Linux experts sent me a link to that story,
but while there are mentions of a .deb file, I saw none. Certainly, while I
really like NANO, at least WP would let me see reveal codes. Thanks in advance

My guess would be we can't find the .deb package because they are waiting
for an answer from Corel on whether it is legal or not before posting it.
That is however just a guess.

Good afternoon everyone, I am wondering is there a way for blind person to install any version of Lennix on a modern Dell laptop without cited assistance?

The big caveat here is that there is a way to do it in such a manner that the main operating system in this case Windows 11 will not be disturbed? Does anyone have any good suggestions for how to do this? I do have a Ubuntu disk image sitting on my hard drive. I believe it is the current version of this Lennix distribution.

Sincerely Maurice mines.

Hi!
Sounds interesting.
I wonder if it can be obtained for the Mac or for any other platform.
I starting disliking it as everything got unlogic for me as a windows user.
But actually it was a really powerful tool.

Hi Maurice,

To install Linux alongside an existing windows system, you'll need to
1. Shrink the main Windows partition to create space for linux
2. Create and format partitions for linux
3. Install Linux
4. Install a bootloader that can boot both Windows and Linux

You'll need to do step 1 from Windows. The Ubuntu installer
will take care of steps 2, 3 and probably 4.
It would be helpful to have a live ISO with speech
on a USB drive to boot if you every have trouble
booting your linux partition.

If found this expanation of how to enable speech in the installer[1]

Debian is the basis for many other Linux distributions,
including Ubuntu. It is available in both graphical and
command-line editions. There are a lot of images available,
so getting the right one can be somewhat confusing. If you
wish to have an easily installable version, be sure to grab
the live image. If you prefer to do things manually, grab
the network install image. To enable accessibility and the
Orca screen reader on the graphical image, press and hold
down the ALT and Command keys, then press S. To enable
accessibility if you downloaded the network install image,
press S at the boot screen of the image and press Enter.
After the image boots, you should hear speech. Follow the
 prompts from there.

Perhaps others with recent experience will have more to add.

Joel

I wouldn't put them on the same hard drive as a starting point. If you
have two hard drives, you can have Windows on one, and Debian, or
whichever distro you want on the other. That way Windows updates don't
break things for Linux.

Ideally, you'd want to have both installed, but on seperate drives. The
issue with having them on the same drive is they will, in efect, be
fighting over a bunch of stuff and it's a lot more trouble than it's worth

There was a method I used back in the early 2000?s that pretty much had a large image file (about 120 GB), a folder with the batch file, VMLinuz kernel image and a couple of other files in there. You would start windows normally, then open a CMD.exe window, cd to the folder (located in the root level of the drive) and then run the batch file. It would kick out windows and immediately start up linux on the hosted image file (which is formatted exactly like a HDD image, including partition table, etc). The result would be that windows receives the equivalent of an immediate reboot without any other conditions and when you are done in linux, you can do a standard shutdown and restart and windows will be reloaded like it?s in a new session.

It?s been a very long time since I did anything like this, so, I will have to search for it on the net and see if it?s still viable. Btw, I did this on both a win2k machine and also a windows 7 laptop, so I know it worked.
