Hi All: I am in Debian SID-and-I update daily. For maybe 2years I find alot of
value in a program called "rdrview" which like similar applications in other OS
provide a rather un complicated view of articles on web-pages, without those
lengthly tool bars. Anyway, you can run it as an external in L Y N X. Well,
certainly no idea which update broke this, but now I get a cryptic message
"futext fascility returned an unexpected error"
In searching, others have gotten this error for other programs, but I didn't
really see any solutions. Running "locate futext" only come up with an item in
kernel 5.9 sources, however, I am currently in 5.17 all though if I were to
reboot, I would be in 5.18. So, can any1 please suggest how to correct this error? What
we did in some cases where programs depend on Python, are running them in a
vertual envirenment. Thanks so much in advance.
Chime

My usual workaround for something breaking in Debian Unstable is to
enable Testing in my /etc/apt/sources.list, downgrade the affected
package, and then spoof the version number of the package in
/var/lib/dpkg/status to make aptitude think the installed version is
slightly newer than the Unstable version... granted, this might not
help if the affected package can't be downgraded by itself, andif the
issue persists, you might find yourself in the situation where a new
version that doesn't fix the problem hits unstable but the version
that introduce the problem has since migrated to testing.

No idea on this specific issue though.

Well, thank you, but rdrview is a github package, so fooling with sources would
probably not help. Sure if I knew exactly which package broke this, I would
have easier options. Thanks again

As I read in the readme of rdrview, it depends on 3 packages:
libxml2, libseccomp and libcurl. Try to downgrade these and try it again.
It doesn't rellies on any python package so you don't have to worry abou
It doesn't relly on python so don't worry about.

Regards.

Thank you Arter. In looking over a man-page for apt, I don't see a downgrade
option In 2 of those 3 packages you mentioned, it couldn't find them, but in 1
case I ran aptitude instead-and-I had additional options of packages. Thanks
again.
