I wish to record something from firefox without recording all the system audio, such as orca. I found this thread,

But this looks like it redirects the entire system audio output to the sink.
Any help in trying to record with sox or something from firefox would be appreciated.

Actually this looks exactly like what you want. Note the improvements in
the answers below the first one that create a combined sink instead of
the null sink. That way you can still hear the app you're trying to
record. But you are looking for the app sink index that should be listed
in pacmd, not the default output. Every app that is playing sound should
have a sink listed in pacmd, and you record from its monitor. Hope this
