Re: emacspeak accent driver and chaging the speech rate

I'm glad to hear somebody is trying out the Accent server, at least.
(I don't have an Accent here, but I have worked on speech servers for
the Double Talk and BnS.)  

You can help the debugging by providing a little more information.

Most importantly, what device are you using -- an actual Accent, or
something that claims Accent compatibility?  What model and firmware
revision?  

Also, which version of the speech server software are you using?
(Admittedly, I think there has been only one version announced
publically.)  

What version of Emacspeak are you using?  I believe the current Accent
server works only with Emacspeak 7.0.

Then, try changing the speech rate from the command line.  The Accent
rate command looks like \033RB, where the first part is the octal code
for an escape character and the "B" is a code for the desired speed.
Legal codes include at least these: 8 9 A B C D E F G H.  Assuming you
are running bash as your shell, I believe you can send text to your
device like this:

echo $'this is a test\r' >/dev/ttyS2

You should be able to test the rate commands with something like this:

echo $'initial rate speech \033R9 speech with rate set to nine \033RE
speech with rate set to echo \033RH speech with rate set to hotel' >/dev/ttyS2
