yes i install mate from the console
apt-get install mate-desktop-environment-core
but manny things are not there
e.g icon for sound and network

Probably you need more packages
To get a list of mate related packages try:
apt --search mate
then to know more about each listed package:
apt --show packagename
Of course replace packagename above by the name of the package.

Does mate-extras exist as a package, if so likely that's where the rest of

now all work fine
but i dont have the sys tray icons e.g network,audio etc
