What I was trying to imply in my message yesterday is that various solutions are available, they have all been discussed on this list, it doesn't take much time or effort for a knowledgeable user to install the software for a friend, and perhaps it is time to relegate this topic to the background. I am sure there is a mailing list somewhere devoted to Linux installation.
