Hi, all,
* my system isn't connected to a network.
* I'm running slakware 1.2.8.
* Tcp/ip is not installed.
* I would like my users to be able to send mail back and fourth on the
system, through the standard mail system (eg: pine, etc.).
* /etc/HOSTNAME: blink.blink.net
* sendmail error: "my host: blink, not found; connection refused".
This error is displayed when ever I start the system (eg: sendmail
startup), and when ever a user sends any mail . . .
The only way I have been able to do it sofar, is my mailing directly to
the users mailbox (eg: mail |/var/spool/mail/ktdee).
Then mail comes from:
from: /<mail path>@blink
Any idea's on what can be done so my users/I can exchange mail?

You need to add the name of your system with a fake ip address to the file
/etc/hosts like this
10.1.1.1 blink.blink.net blink
Then configure sendmail appropriately
The other way you can do it if you have trouble is to go
127.0.0.1 blink.blink.net blink
This uses the loopback device for connections to your own machine, and
saves you playing with ifconfig and route, however, if your system ever
goes live, it will break *everything*
So remember to change it if you're ever planning on putting your system on
the net even if its only via ppp/slip
Sorry this is a little unclear but its been *ages* since I had to
configure a system without networking installed. <smile>.

old but runs

install it for localhost, much more fun

You can edit your sendmail.mc and .cf file. Look on your
CDROM's or follow my .sig to find SSR-XX (pre-releases).
I have never configured a machine without networking,
but my machine often boots without any connections!
